6 Reasons to Gua Sha Your Scalp!
A simple ritual for healthier scalp, hair, and stress relief.
One of my favorite ways to relax from the day is to treat myself to a few minutes of scalp gua sha and massage. You can do this while watching TV — or my favorite way is sitting in bed right before lights out. It’s so relaxing and I sleep better!
Scalp gua sha has a ton of benefits for hair health and overall well-being:
Improved Circulation: Increases blood flow to the scalp, which helps to nourish hair follicles and promote healthy hair growth. Better circulation also helps in delivering essential nutrients to the scalp.
Relaxation & Stress Relief: Promotes a sense of well-being and relaxation. That can have a positive impact on overall mental health and may even improve sleep quality.
Calms Tension Headaches: By relaxing the scalp muscles it can help reduce tension headaches, lower overall stress levels, which may indirectly benefit hair health by reducing stress-related hair loss.
Improved Scalp Health: Regular scalp massage or gua sha can help to exfoliate the scalp, removing dead skin cells and excess sebum. This can help to prevent clogged hair follicles and reduce the risk of scalp conditions such as dandruff and scalp acne.
Hair Strength, Growth, & Shine: By promoting circulation and delivering nutrients to the hair follicles, scalp gua sha can help to strengthen the hair shaft and improve its overall appearance, leading to shinier, healthier-looking hair. It may also stimulate dormant hair follicles and encourage new hair growth.
Detoxification: Gua sha is believed to promote detoxification by stimulating the lymphatic system. This can help to remove toxins and waste products from the scalp, promoting a healthier environment for hair growth.
Spending a few minutes a day on your scalp is all you need. You can use a number of gua sha shapes to massage the scalp. However, my favorite scalp tool (and the one I use on my facial clients) is the Wildling Empress Comb. It’s specifically designed to stimulate the meridians of the head. It won't pull or snag hair, is suitable for all hair types, and really lifts my mood!
